One of Black’s most popular answer to 1.e4 is the Sicilian Defence, especially the Najdorf variation. The Najdorf is one of the most complicated and therefore respected chess openings. The Polish-Argentinian Grandmaster Miguel Najdorf is the one who this opening is named after. It starts like:
1. e4 c5 2. Nf3 d6 3. d4 cxd4 4. Nxd4 Nf6 5. Nc3 a6.
Many great professional players like Fischer and Kasparov are firm supporters of this opening due to the fact that the Najdorf is very dynamic. Although many players have tried to, no one has really found a way for White to gain the advantage.
In this book the objective is to unravel and understand the Nadjorf by the key moves and the (direct) consequences, as well as the strategy and tactical moves. Richard Palliser does a great job in explaining the reason behind every move for as well Black as White. As every book in this Starting Out Series this one is packed with diagrams, notes, tips, warnings and more highlights which will guide you perfectly through the maze called the Sicilian Najdorf.
